Nirva Water Taxi
Today, 15th October 2020 is a big day for Navgathi. Amid Covid 19 pandemic when the whole world is facing uncertainty and unpredictability, we managed to bring out a rejuvenating approach for Kerala tourism and the public water transport sector. A new model of on-demand water transportation, “Taxi service on water”.
India’s first water taxi, designed and built Navgathi, has joined the Kerala State Water Transport Department fleet. Kerala Chief Minister, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan, inaugurated the service via videoconference. Shri. AM Arif (Member of Parliament) and Shri. Shaji V Nair (Director, SWTD) along with other dignitaries, took the inaugural ride.

Navgathi boatyard in Panavally built this boat. The Swedish make OXE diesel outboard engine enables the vessel in achieving a speed of 30 kmph making it the fastest public transport boat in Kerala. The 8.5-meter long craft will carry ten passengers in a comfortable and luxurious cabin. India’s first indigenous marine electric steering developed in line with PM’s Atmanirbhar Bharat will reduce the efforts in maneuvering. Flexible solar panels and CIPS energy storage unit power the entire electrical loads.
Group of tourists and local commuters, up to ten, can enjoy the service of water-taxi at an affordable rate of ₹750 for 30 minutes. Passengers can call 9400050325/9400050346 to book the service. The boat will pick and drop them at their destination.
